A dual-camera photo of what you are looking at and your face looking at it. No filters, no editing, no retakes. It expires from the feed the way a real moment does.

Verification

A blue badge that means something specific

Verification is a two-minute selfie in a pose we prompt on screen, so a saved photo cannot pass the check. Automated matching compares it to your profile photos, and a person reviews anything the system is unsure about, usually within 24 hours.

  • Change your main photo and the badge comes off until you re-verify.
  • You can filter your whole discovery feed to verified profiles only.
  • Verification proves the photos are of you. It is not an identity or background check, and we never imply otherwise.

Intent

Say what you are here for, on the front of the card

Marriage, something serious, still working it out, friends, a travel companion, low-pressure chat. Intent sits on your profile where people can see it before they invest anything, and it is a primary matching signal rather than a tag nobody reads.

  • Pick more than one if that is the truth.
  • Add where you stand on long distance, children and family plans.
  • Ask the algorithm for exact intent alignment, or tell it to stay flexible.

Prompts and profile

Five prompts, answered in text or in your own voice

Choose five from a library of more than fifty, grouped by what they are for: about you, conversation starters, lifestyle and values, dating, fun, and the properly niche. Answer in 150 characters of text or record up to a minute of audio — mix formats freely.

  • Every prompt on your profile is repliable, and a reply is how a connection starts.
  • Voice answers appear as a waveform card, and can be liked and replied to exactly like text.
  • Stuck on an answer? An optional AI suggestion gives you a first draft you then rewrite in your own words.

Location matching

Distance that fits your actual life

City and country autocomplete is powered by Google Places, so the place you type resolves to the place you mean. On top of a distance radius, you can add the cities and countries you are genuinely open to — and the ones you are not.

  • Named distances instead of a raw number: Nearby, Neighbourhood, Close range, Not too far, Far but close, Anywhere.
  • Include lists for the places you visit often. Exclude lists that hard-filter, no negotiation.
  • Your exact coordinates are never shown to anyone, and distance display can be switched off entirely.

Languages

Five languages in the app, and a language filter that works

Soula ships in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Chinese. You can list the languages you speak on your profile and filter discovery by language, which matters more than most apps admit in cities where people are dating across three of them.

  • The interface follows your device language.
  • Language is a filter, not a guess based on where your phone is.
  • More locales are added as communities grow — this website follows the app.

Safety tools

Controls that assume you might need them today

Report from anywhere — a profile, a message, a prompt, a Moment, a post. Blocking is immediate, mutual and silent. Pause your profile for a day, a week, or indefinitely without losing anything. Premium adds incognito mode, invisible browsing and a check-in for when you are meeting someone new.

  • Screenshot and screen-recording protection in chat, always on.
  • Deal breaker filters remove profiles from discovery permanently rather than ranking them lower.
  • Most reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and risk-to-person reports are prioritised.

The connection model

How two people end up talking

One mechanic, used everywhere in the app. Nothing about it is a slot machine.

  1. Someone replies to something specific

    A prompt answer, a photo, a video, a Moment, an Out & About post — plus an optional note of up to 150 characters. The other person sees exactly what caught your attention.

  2. They accept or decline

    Accepting opens the chat for both of you. Declining removes the request quietly, and the sender is never told. There is no public rejection anywhere in Soula.

  3. If you both reached out, you are already connected

    Mutual interest skips the accept step entirely and opens the chat with a small celebration and three AI icebreakers drawn from what you actually have in common.

  4. 72 hours to say the first thing

    A quiet timer, colour-coded in your chat list, that expires the connection if neither of you speaks. It exists so your list is people you are talking to, not a graveyard of maybes.

Likes are passive and send no notification. Connection requests are capped per day by plan — 10 on Free, 30 on Pro, unlimited on Premium — while likes are unlimited on every plan. See the plans.

One thing we will not claim

Soula does not run criminal background checks, and a verified badge is not a character reference. It confirms that the person in the photos is the person using the account. Please read the Safety Centre before you meet anyone in person.
