Accessibility Statement

We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on soulalove.com and full platform accessibility support in the Soula apps. This statement sets out what we have done, what we know is not there yet, and how to tell us when something does not work.

Our commitment

Dating is already vulnerable enough without an interface getting in the way. We want Soula to work for people who use screen readers, magnification, keyboard-only navigation, switch access, voice control, captions, or larger text, and for people who find motion uncomfortable.

Accessibility is treated as part of building the product rather than a clean-up job at the end. When we find a barrier, we log it, fix it, and say so.

The standard we aim for

  • soulalove.com targets WCAG 2.2 level AA.
  • The Soula iOS and Android apps target full support for the accessibility features built into each platform, which in practice means the WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria that apply to native mobile interfaces.

What we have done on soulalove.com

  • Semantic HTML throughout, with one h1 per page and headings that descend in order, so a screen reader’s heading list matches the visible structure.
  • Keyboard operability for every interactive control, in a logical order, with no keyboard traps.
  • Visible focus states on links, buttons and form fields, using an indicator that stays visible against both light and dark backgrounds.
  • A skip link as the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard and screen reader users can jump straight to the main content.
  • Colour contrast checked against AA. Body text, headings and interface text meet the AA contrast ratios. Our brand colours are used decoratively, in gradients and illustration, where they cannot carry small text safely.
  • prefers-reduced-motion support. If your operating system asks for reduced motion, heading animations and page transition effects are disabled rather than merely slowed.
  • Responsive layouts that reflow to 320px without a horizontal scrollbar or loss of content.
  • Text resizable to 200% without content being cut off or controls overlapping.
  • No information conveyed by colour alone. Status, errors and emphasis always carry text or a shape as well.
  • Labelled form fields with visible labels, associated hints, and error messages that name the field and say how to fix the problem.
  • Alternative text on meaningful images, and decorative images marked so assistive technology skips them.

What we have done in the Soula app

  • iOS Dynamic Type and Android font scaling are supported, so the app follows the text size you have set on your device.
  • VoiceOver and TalkBack labels on controls, images and profile elements, including the actions in a conversation and on a profile card.
  • Reduce-motion support that turns off card animations and transitions.
  • Tap targets of at least 44 by 44 points, with enough spacing between adjacent controls.
  • Captions guidance for video prompts, shown to members when they record, encouraging captions or a text summary.
  • Text alternatives for voice prompts, so a voice answer can be understood without hearing it.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what is not working than imply everything is.

  • Third-party embeds and app store badge artwork are supplied by others and we do not control their markup or contrast. We keep them to a minimum and provide our own text alternatives where we can.
  • Some video prompt content is user-generated and may not have captions. We prompt members to add them, but we cannot guarantee they do.
  • Automated contrast checks cannot validate user-uploaded photos. A member’s own image may have low contrast or embedded text we cannot fix.
  • Full validation is still in progress. Automated testing catches only part of the picture. Manual testing with assistive technology and expert accessibility review is ongoing, and until that work is complete there will be issues we have not yet found.

How this conformance claim is assessed

This statement is a self-assessment. We have not been audited or certified by a third party, and we do not claim any accessibility certification or badge.

We test with automated tooling in our build pipeline, with keyboard-only navigation, with browser zoom and text scaling, and with VoiceOver on iOS and macOS and TalkBack on Android. That combination is useful but not sufficient. A complete WCAG 2.2 AA determination requires manual testing with assistive technology across real user journeys and review by accessibility specialists, including testing with people who rely on these tools daily. That work is planned and underway, and we will update this statement as it produces results rather than before.

Report an accessibility problem

If something on soulalove.com or in the app does not work for you, please tell us. Reports from real use are the most valuable input we get.

Email support@soulalove.com with the subject Accessibility and include what you can:

  • the page URL or the screen in the app;
  • what you were trying to do and what happened;
  • your device, operating system and browser version;
  • the assistive technology you were using, if any, and its version.

What to expect:

  • A response within 5 business days, from a person, not an automated reply.
  • A target of 30 days to ship a fix or give you a workable alternative.
  • If a fix will take longer, we will tell you why, what the interim workaround is, and when we expect to have it done.

If you would prefer another way to reach us, use the contact page. For anything involving your safety, use safety@soulalove.com, which is monitored more urgently. Formal notices can go to legal@soulalove.com.

Alternative ways to get things done

If an accessibility barrier stops you completing something in the product, we will help you do it another way. That includes account deletion and data requests, which can always be made by email through Data and Account Deletion, and billing questions, which can be handled by email at billing@soulalove.com rather than through a purchase screen. Cancellation steps for both app stores are written out in full in the Subscription Terms and the Refund and Cancellation Policy.

How we review this statement

We review this statement at least once a year and again whenever we make a significant redesign, ship a major feature, or complete a round of accessibility testing. The date at the top of the page shows the current version.
